After a 10-day trial, the family of an 11-year old victim was awarded $38.8MM for compensatory damages in the case for the wrongful death of their child who was hit and killed at a crosswalk. Represented by Nevada’s Sean Claggett, William Sykes, and Geordan Logan of Claggett & Sykes Law Firm, this verdict is far greater than the original $250,000 settlement offer.
As featured on Courtroom View Network, the Nevada state court heard arguments noting that the driver was employed previously and terminated based on his driving record, then hired back into their services at a later date. After the driver was re-hired, he failed to stop at a stop sign before making a right turn, killing the child at a crosswalk.
When interviewed regarding the verdict, Attorney Claggett stated the jury’s compensatory verdict was “well thought out and fair.” Further saying, “Obviously, you’d always like them to give you the number you feel is fair, but they came to a number that is reasonable.”
