Thanksgiving is right around the corner! This season is a time to be thankful for everything we have and give our kindness, time, and resources to those who need it. Advocate Capital’s associates recently volunteered at Second Harvest Food Bank of Middle Tennessee by sorting, quality checking, and packing donated cold foods. Second Harvest provides food to people facing hunger in Middle Tennessee and works to advance hunger solutions.
According to Second Harvest, “1 in 8 Middle and West Tennesseans face food insecurity, while at the same time, landfills are piling up with wasted food. Second Harvest Food Bank of Middle Tennessee is working toward a future in which everyone has equitable access to the food and resources they need, while minimizing food waste in the process.”
Second Harvest receives food donations and surplus food from grocery stores, farms, manufacturers, distributors, and individuals. In addition to food donations, they raise funds to buy food at bulk prices. Food is sorted and distributed to afterschool programs, soup kitchens, senior centers, and other nonprofits that provide food to people facing hunger.
As a group, we sorted 6,873 pounds of food, which is equal to 5,747 meals. We would like to thank all our associates who took the time to volunteer: Brenda Ramirez, David Alford, Lisa Larkin, Claire Wood, Michael Moore, Amanda Unterreiner, Shirley Johnson, Donna Jones, and Paul Myers. We'd also like to give a special thanks to our friends from Pinnacle Financial Partners who joined us this year: Mark Liggio, Dottie McPherson, and Elizabeth Graves!
Advocate Capital will also be making a donation to Second Harvest that will provide 2,000 meals to those in need. We are grateful to be able to support such an amazing organization that is making a difference in our community.
We would like to give a huge thank you to Second Harvest for the work they do to help those in need in our community, especially during the holiday season.
