Our friend, Thomas H. Peyton of Peyton Law Firm, PLLC, recently obtained a fantastic jury verdict on behalf of his client. The $7.6M verdict handed down by the Monongalia County jury included $1,250,000.00 in punitive damages.
On January 17, 2016, the defendant struck and killed a young woman walking to her friend’s apartment. The victim had pelvic fractures, bruised lungs, and severe brain swelling.
By walking the jury through the collision and how it changed the victim's family forever, the plaintiff team asked the jury to award significant damages to the family. The jury answered the call by awarding damages for pain and suffering, lost earnings and compensation for the grief arising from the loss of a family member.
To quote our client and friend Mr. Peyton, “There are no winners in this case. This is a case that I will never forget. As an attorney, I just hope I did an honorable job representing the family in this tragic situation.”
