According to Public Justice, the California Senate recently passed the "Public Right To Know" bill. This anti-secrecy bill is sponsored by Consumer Reports and Public Justice and will protect the public's right to know about product defects, environmental hazards, etc. that are uncovered during litigation.
This bill will prevent companies from keeping information from the public that is vital to public health and safety for the sake of profits.
Public Justice states, "For decades, overly broad court protective orders have enabled companies to shield evidence of threats to public safety and other corporate wrongdoing. From malfunctioning car tires to addictive medication, the harm of keeping this information secret from the public can not only be devastating but even deadly. As a result, SB 1149 will save lives."
Florida, Louisiana, Montana, South Carolina, and Washington have laws similar to this one currently in place.
