Distracted driving, as defined, is “any non-driving activity that a driver engages in behind the wheel.” It only takes three (3) seconds of distraction to cause an accident. According to a recent carinsurance.net article, approximately 2.5 million car crashes happen worldwide due to distracted driving every year. In the United States alone, eight people die daily on average due to car accidents involving a distracted driver. Teenagers, ages 16-19, have a three-times higher fatal crash rate per mile driven than those over 20.
Chaffin Luhana LLP, plaintiffs-only law firm with a national trial practice focused on representing injured clients in complex cases is working with high school and college/university students to address this problem head-on. Their Chaffin Luhana Foundation is sponsoring its 2022 National Chaffin Luhana Anti-Distracted Driving Scholarship Essay Contest, awarding a $2,500 scholarship to a student whose essay can inspire and assist in this fight.
