As you prepare your holiday treats, make sure to check any Duncan Hines cake mixes you plan to make. Four flavors are being voluntarily recalled due to a possible Salmonella contamination: Classic White, Classic Butter Golden, Signature Confetti and Classic Yellow (see below for specific “best by” dates).
According the Chicago Tribune, the Food and Drug Administration and the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention are currently investigating related cases of the salmonella illness. Most of those affected had consumed the cake before getting ill, though some may have eaten the mix raw.
According to 9 News, there was Salmonella found in a retail sample of the cake mixes, which could be tied to the outbreak. Though the outbreak is not definitely related to these specific cake mixes, Conagra Brands, Duncan Hines parent company, is making the recall as a precaution.
Conagra Brands is advising consumers not to consume these products and to return them to the store where they were originally purchased. They say that no other Duncan Hines or Conagra Brands' products are at risk or affected by this recall.
