Today is International Women's Day (IWD)! IWD began in 1911. It is a global day designed to celebrate the achievements of women and advocate for gender equality issues. The theme for this year is "Embrace Equity."
The IWD website states, "The campaign aims to encourage important conversations on Why equal opportunities aren't enough and Why equal isn't always fair. People start from different places, so true inclusion and belonging require equitable action."
According to the American Bar Association, "In 2010, fewer than one-third of all lawyers (31%) were women. Twelve years later, in 2022, 38% of all lawyers were women...The long-term trend is easier to see when viewed over the course of decades. The biggest growth in female lawyers came in the 1980s and ’90s. From 1950 to 1970, only 3% of all lawyers were women. The percentage increased to 8% in 1980, 20% in 1991 and 29% in 2000."
We encourage you to support and get involved with women's legal organizations such as the National Association of Women Lawyers and the American Association for Justice Women Trial Lawyers Caucus.
Our team would like to take today to celebrate all women, especially our employees and clients who are women! Your strength, resilience, and unique perspective are valued and appreciated today and every day.
