If you own or work at a smaller law firm, you may not have anyone on the team who is there for marketing. But – when is the right time to finally hire a marketing professional and start to grow your marketing department? Here are a few tips from Attorney At Work on ways to know when it is time to hire a professional marketer.
- Your firm isn’t bringing in the same number of new clients as you have in the past or as many as you’d like, and you don’t know how to pick it up. If your firm is ready to bring in new clients, and you’re not sure how to get more leads, a marketing professional can help you get started. They will be able to work with you to create a marketing strategy specific to your firm, as well as implement the marketing tactics to be successful.
- You have non-marketing professionals, such as your office manager or paralegal, doing some of the marketing functions but no marketing devised strategy. In the early years of your business, you may not be able to hire a specific marketing team, you likely have someone working on marketing functions as an extra to their typical job functions. If you really want to drive your marketing, you need a specific strategy in place. If your other team members are taking on a lot of marketing functions, it might be time to hire someone full-time to create and implement a strategy. This will allow your other employees to focus on the things that they are the best at.
- Partners and key lawyers keep asking for a website refresh or new branding, but they do not have the time or expertise to take it on. Having a website or social media account isn’t enough anymore. Staying up to date on trends, engaging with your audience, and having a modern, user-friendly website and modern branding are important. If your lawyers are seeing that your firm’s website, social, and branding are starting to become outdated, you want someone who specializes in marketing to help make the updates.
- Senior partners who are key to bringing in new clients are leaving. You may get a lot of new clients due to your star partners or lawyers. But, they won’t be around forever. Marketing is important because you want your firm to grow and shine as an entity. Especially if your key partners are leaving soon, it’s time to focus on marketing as a way to grow instead of relying on top lawyers.
