Recently I blogged about a true David vs. Goliath style employment law success story, the $37.25M settlement reached by J. Gary Gwilliam and his Oakland, CA based law firm Gwilliam Ivary Chiosso Cavalli & Brewer in a case against Lawrence Livermore National Security Labs. After more than seven years of heavy litigation, Gwilliam and his firm were able to negotiate a landmark settlement on behalf of 129 employees who were wrongfully terminated after the national security labs handed over management responsibility to the privately held for-profit company, Bechtel.
Now you can read more about the Bechtel family dynasty, the privatization of our Nation’s national security labs and the litigation that followed. Just out March 1st, in her latest work, The Profiteers: Bechtel and the Men Who Built the World, historian & investigative journalist Sally Denton explores the Bechtel family history and its business, from the humble beginnings as the company that built the Hoover Dam to the rise of a privately held global empire fueled largely by government contracts. In the book, Denton shares a riveting story of abuse of corporate and political power and chronicles the employment law litigation led by Gary Gwilliam, Randy Strauss & Robert Schwartz, as they fought to seek justice on behalf of employees wrongfully terminated after decades of service.
We’re all fortunate to have consumer attorneys across this great nation, like long-time friend and client Gwilliam Ivary Chiosso Cavalli & Brewer, who are willing to take on modern day Goliaths and global empires like Bechtel at their own expense, assuming all financial risks, to demand and deliver justice for consumers. Thanks to the author Sally Denton for shedding light on this important story of corporate and political abuse.
