Congratulations to Attorney Lance Cooper for being named Daily Report’s Newsmaker of the Year!
The Daily Report recently recognized Lance as Newsmaker of the year “for illuminating the power of discovery in 2014.” The article “Lance Cooper and the Power of Discovery: One Case, 30M Recalls” highlights the intense discovery work by Lance and his team in the Melton vs. GM case. The arduous process of reviewing thousands of documents and numerous depositions would ultimately reveal that not only was the Chevrolet Cobalt’s ignition switch defective but that GM officials were aware of the faulty part. The ensuing NHTSA investigation eventually led to 30MM recalls by GM.
In the article, Lance very humbly states, “Cases are won and lost in discovery. If you don’t have the evidence you need, it doesn’t matter how good a trial lawyer you are.” Mr. Cooper also shares a rare glimpse into his personal life discussing his family, core values and how he plans to keep his practice small so he can be involved in every lawsuit even after the flood of cases this year in the wake of Melton vs. GM.
