Checking in with your marketing and business development strategies is not just for firms that aren’t getting the traction they want. Any firm can benefit from trying new things to grow their business and connect with more new potential clients. Even if the things that you are doing are working, it is always a good idea to check in with your current strategies and try new ideas to reach and attract a wider potential client base. If you think it’s time to review your firm’s strategy, here are a few ideas from Attorney at Work for areas to check-in with.
- Review your top referral sources. Make a list of all of your referral sources, whether that is other lawyers, previous clients, etc. Who provides you with the most or most valuable cases? Ensure that you are maintaining and strengthening those relationships.
- Review the organizations you are invested in. Make a list of all the organizations you are a member of or that you are connected to. Which organizations are most beneficial to you, and which do you feel are not providing much benefit to you or your organization? Are you maximizing your benefit? Should you attend more meetings, join a committee, volunteer for an event, attend more networking events, etc.? Focus your time and energy on the organizations that benefit you most or that you feel the most connected to. If you feel that you should be putting more into a certain organization, make it a priority and review their upcoming events. If you feel like you don’t have the right passion for a certain organization, consider giving your position to someone who can devote their energy to it.
- Review your online presence. Review not only your firm’s website and social media but your own personal social accounts (especially LinkedIn). Does your online presence give an accurate representation of the type of work your firm specializes in currently? Is it compelling to your target audience?
- Review your analytics. For all of your marketing and business development tactics, take a look at how they are performing. How many leads are they bringing in? How much engagement are they getting? How many new contacts are coming from it?
