When we represent clients in workers’ compensation cases, they have often suffered severe injuries that result in permanent disability. In my years of working as a personal injury attorney, I’ve had the honor of representing many of these individuals who never seem to let adversity stand in the way of seeking their right to the benefits to which they are entitled by law.
Recently, I represented an amazing man, Jeff Giles, who has agreed to share his story in our newsletter.
Back in 2010, Jeff suffered a severe back injury while at work, requiring an extreme type of back surgery involving spinal fusion. Unfortunately, the procedure did not go well and even though it relieved most of his pain, it left him with no sensation from the waist down.
Our firm helped Jeff file a workers’ compensation claim and a Social Security disability claim. Two of Jeff’s doctors stated that he could never go back to his previous job of 21 years where the accident and injury occurred. Adding to that evidence, one of the doctors even stated that he would never be able to work at any similar job again given the physical complications resulting from the back injury.
Unfortunately, even with substantial evidence of his disabling condition that had been confirmed by both licensed physicians and SSA representatives, the application for Social Security disability benefits was denied. Jeff was not ready to give up and neither was our law firm.
After three years of pursing the claim and appeal, Jeff has finally had his day in court where we were able to bring his case before a judge. The dedication of our law firm and Jeff’s perseverance prevailed. I am happy to report that Jeff Giles won his rightful benefits for both his workers’ compensation and Social Security disability claims.
