As the most significant settlement of the Fair Workweek law to date, a $20 million lawsuit against Chipotle has been settled by the New York City Department of Labor. Chipotle was found to have violated policies regarding scheduling hours and sick leave during the time period of November 2017 to April 2022, according to the New York Times. A further local law requiring 56 hours of paid sick leave per year, specific to larger companies, was also violated by Chipotle, the city concluded.
Employees of NYC Chipotle who worked during that period will receive $50 per week they worked during the time of the violation, while former employees will have to file a separate compensation claim.
