Congratulations to attorney Elizabeth Quick and all our friends at Quick Law Group, PLLC, on the recent $2,750,000 settlement they obtained on behalf of their clients, in King County Superior Court, of Seattle, Washington.
Quick | Law Group, PLLC represented a young family with a mom who was carrying a healthy full-term baby. She went to a local hospital when she went into labor. The attending obstetrician augmented the mom’s labor which resulted in fetal distress, including multiple prolonged decelerations. The two other doctors working that night left the facility to tend to other patients, leaving only the attending obstetrician in surgery with another patient. Many hours passed before a cesarean section was performed. The child was born with severe brain damage and severe hypoxic-ischemic encephalopathy (HIE), causing several of her organs to fail, leading to her death nine days later.
The plaintiffs alleged inadequate staffing and physician coverage, failure to obtain informed consent, failure by the nurses to communicate the baby’s status and use the chain of command, and negligence in failure for all defendants to communicate and timely perform a cesarean section delivery.
The case settled for $2.75 Million five weeks before the scheduled trial date.
