On January 31st, we ventured back in time, back to the ’80s!
We wanted to fully embrace the totally rad decade with a custom 80’s playlist, PowerPoint slide show of employees in their 80’s glory, 80’s fashion, paper fortune tellers, decorations and a game of Jeopardy.
Teams of four were created and assigned a classic 80’s movie as their team name. Teams shouted out their team movie name as their buzzer. The 80’s-based Jeopardy game had five categories with questions ranging from 100 to 500 points each. Team names were The Karate Kid, Ghostbusters, Goonies, Pretty in Pink, Top Gun, Back to the Future, The Breakfast Club and Revenge of the Nerds. The Jeopardy game was a very competitive game. In true Jeopardy fashion, employees had to answer in the form of a question to gain the points for their team. In the end, Team Karate Kid won Jeopardy. Congratulations Todd Jackson, Katilin Simpson, Claire Wood and Rebecca Stottlemyer!
We couldn’t have an 80’s party without rocking some 80’s style. Employees voted for their favorite 80’s dude and dudette with Donald Scott and Christie Gibson taking home the honors.
An 80’s party requires some rad 80’s food. Since we couldn’t find a restaurant to cater an 80’s menu of Sloppy Joes, Seven Layer Dip and Chips, Cool Ranch Doritos, Pizza Rolls, Ambrosia Salad, and Capri Sun drinks we had to make the food ourselves. We finished the menu with classic 80’s candy for dessert. Employees had their choice of Pop Rocks, Rock Candy, Hubba Bubba gum, Sour Apple Jolly Ranchers, Skor and Whatchamacallit candy bars.
The Jeopardy and 80’s fashion winners had their choice of 80’s games and gift cards as their prizes. Games included a Rubik cube, Magic 8 Ball, Fashion Plates, Connect Four, Lite Bright, and Spirograph.
A very special thank you goes to Donald Scott, Susan Greene and Shirley Johnson for helping me pull off this bodacious party. I couldn’t have done it without them stepping up to cook and decorate.
