Mike Sawaya has been fighting for justice for consumers in Colorado for nearly 49 years. However, he’s not only committed to ensuring justice for the people of Colorado, he also is committed to giving back to the community, leading by example through countless community initiatives.
Most recently, Mr. Sawaya and his team at The Sawaya Law Firm created the “Sawaya Values Awards” to recognize Coloradans who are committed to helping themselves and members of their community reach their full potential. The recognition is based on the values the Sawaya Law Firm believes to be the bedrock of society: Hope, Service, Responsibility, Faith, Honor, Trust, Freedom, Honesty, Integrity, Justice, Truth and Family. A recipient is selected each month and receives a plaque to commemorate the achievement and a donation of $250 to a qualifying charity of their choice. Not only does this award provide recognition for people in the community who are doing great things while also providing funding to various charities throughout the community – by being given on a monthly basis, the Values Award keeps the message in front of the community providing continuous motivation for others.
Mr. Sawaya says, “Our highest purpose is to help everyone reach their potential. We want to honor people who put these values into action and help all of us towards accomplishing that goal.”
Mr. Sawaya has also created a number of other initiatives demonstrating leadership in giving back to his community. One of my personal favorites is his Holiday Cab Ride program, where he provides free cab ride service to members of the community on holidays such as New Year’s Eve, July 4th, Halloween and St. Patrick’s Day. It’s a great way to extend the message about safe driving, reducing accidents and keeping the streets safe for residents of Denver. He also serves as the President of the Board of Directors for Servicios de la Raza, a 40 year old social service agency providing emergency services, domestic violence counseling, psychological services, youth job training and more. He also serves on the Board of Directors of the Colorado Trial Lawyers Association.
Mr. Sawaya is also a musician and contributor to the Arts in Colorado, through his role as President of the Colorado Conservatory for the Jazz Arts.
A special salute to Mr. Sawaya for his tireless leadership in supporting and giving back to the community!
