Today, November 11th is Veterans Day! Each year, it is a day for us to honor all American veterans for their willingness to serve our country. We recognize and appreciate all of the sacrifices that were made by them and their families.
Veterans Day began in 1919 a year after the ending of World War I. It was originally called “Armistice Day” to mark the temporary cease in hostilities that took place between Germany and the Allied Nations in 1918 on the 11th hour of the 11th day of the 11th month. President Eisenhower officially changed the name to Veterans Day in 1954.
We would like to recognize a few of the veterans our team members know and love:
- Marketing Communication Manager Candace Whitman's grandpa, Jack Whitman Sr., who served in the Airforce during the Korean and Vietnam Wars.
- Director of Client Management Services Michelle Rigsby's grandfather, Dr. Charles W. Harms, who served in WWI as a 1st Lieutenant with the Marines. He was 29 when he was drafted while finishing his residency at Omaha Wesleyan Hospital. He was stationed in France working on a triage hospital train when he was exposed to mustard gas and discharged after suffering from shell shock.
- Senior Credit Compliance Manager Nick Romeo's Papa Romeo who served in World War II.
USAF Master Sergeant Andrew Sigl, Father of Maria Escamilla, Associate Director of Client Management Services. - Blake Welch, son of Executive Client Manager Rebecca Stottlemyer, currently serving as a Lance Corporal in the Marines.
- Executive Client Manager Susan Greene's biological father, Roy.
- Relatives of Amanda Unterreiner, Marketing Specialist: Stepfather Alan Marlowe who served in the United States Marine Corps; grandfather Richard Roberts who served in the Navy, including time during Desert Storm and Vietnam.
- James W. Ivey, Jr., father of Debbie Ivey, Senior Accounting Specialist, who served in the Army (not pictured).
We would like to thank all the American veterans who served and protected our country. These brave people served to protect our freedoms and rights in this country. Join us in honoring them today and every day of the year.
